Stay away from unnecessary worries about the disease during Corona period

During this corona, many people are always worried about 'extra' physical ailments.

You are afraid that any major disease will settle in your body like an uninvited person and drag you towards death.

So in your leisure period, you watch various health channels on YouTube about the disease, or use Google.

Suppose your sore throat started after hearing your neighbour was admitted to the hospital with corona, it is not decreasing at all.

Hearing about various fears from different people increases anxiety and gradually adds difficulty in swallowing food, headache, palpitations and weight loss.

After various tests of your body, the doctors said that everything was normal for you, but the symptoms remained the same.

Problems are exacerbated lately when your friends are shocked to hear of your symptoms. Is your sore throat, swallowing problems, weight loss something wrong, or a symptom of a disease?

Even though you are physically healthy, you are suffering from mental 'excessive anxiety about the body'.

And because of this concern, the above mentioned physical symptoms are seen. In this pandemic period, many people are worried about the body.

They misinterpret these symptoms as a major physical disease only if there are slight symptoms in the body.

For some reason, feeling a little pressure in the chest, it seems that there is heart disease, if there is a headache, it seems that there is a tumour, etc. As a result, the person becomes scared or anxious.

When people are anxious, the brain releases some biochemicals, which disrupt the normal biological processes of the internal organs of the human body.

Such fear can lead to increased heart rate, sweating or chest tightness or any other physical symptoms. These symptoms deepen the misconception about the disease in the person concerned.

As a result, anxiety increases and the symptoms of the disease upswing due to relevant reasons.

In many cases, even if a person has a physical illness, the extreme anxiety of those close to the disease also creates additional symptoms. It can create a negative reaction to a person's disease.

What should be done by the person or the people around to reduce this unnecessary concern about the disease?

How should people around the patient react?

  • Do not panic when you hear the patient's symptoms.
  • Do not give any negative or fabricated information about the disease. Don't suggest any medicine or tests if you are not a healthcare professional.
  • Even if you are worried about the symptoms of the disease, stay as normal as possible without revealing it.
  • Listen carefully to his state of mind with the symptoms and speak positively, reassuring.

What the patient will do to reduce anxiety?

When excessive anxiety is identified as the cause of the symptoms of the disease, doctors often tell the patient, ‘Being overly anxious, don’t be tense, stay relaxed.’

But anxiety is something that comes to mind spontaneously. Because anxiety is a kind of biological response.

However, some behaviours, habits can increase anxiety. Therefore, if these are avoided, the concern about the disease can be avoided at least a little.

If your report comes back to normal on a physical examination and the symptoms appear even after the doctor says you are 'physically healthy', then this is one of the reasons for extra anxiety.

Remember, there is nothing to fear even if this symptom bothers you temporarily.

In this case, refrain from giving undue importance to the symptoms of the body (thinking of major diseases, paying attention, observing too much).

Excessive anxiety can worsen the problem and the symptoms.

Avoid searching on Internet for additional information about the disease, watching YouTube or reduce discussions with people other than physicians.

Information about the disease will increase your anxiety, which can play a role in worsening your symptoms.

Exercising deep breathing several times without indulging in unnecessary worries about the disease helps to reduce your anxiety.

The symptoms will also decrease. Remember, if you suffer from an anxiety disorder, the control of the disease is largely in your hands. Walk, do exercise, keep yourself busy and stay well.
