Why multiple babies are born at once?

All the couples were overjoyed at the news of the arrival of the child. But when you know that the child in the womb is not one, twins or more — then go a little frightened. It is not uncommon to worry about the realities of conceiving, giving birth, and raising multiple children. So then thoughts of various complications spin on your head.

It can be called a complication during pregnancy. But why are more than one child together, if there is fear or not - what is the way to undertake the problem?

Multiple child pregnancies

Multiple pregnancies at the same time are called multiple pregnancies. This is not a normal or well-known phenomenon. Usually, there can be twins, triplets, quadruplets or more. Statistics show that 1 out of every 250 pregnancies is likely to have twins. However, the rate of triplets per 1 in 10,000 pregnancies, the rate of quadruplets pregnancies is even lower, 1 in every 800 thousand pregnancy. However, this number is currently increasing due to the increasing rate of childbearing through infertility treatment.

Why it happens?

Fertilization of a sperm and an egg naturally results in the formation of an embryo, which is implanted in the uterus and gives birth to a human being. Sometimes if two or three eggs are fertilized during the same menstrual cycle, two or three babies can be born at the same time. There is a record of eight children being born simultaneously in the world. These can be many offspring from many eggs, again through the division of a single embryo. However, it is more likely to be from many eggs.

The incidence of fertilization of these many eggs is not very high. However, during the treatment of infertility, many eggs are produced as a result of the application of drugs for ovulation and they have a higher risk of having multiple children. Again, as many embryos are given for transplantation during test tube treatment, there is a possibility of having children.

The family may have a history of having more than one child, such as a twin child or a fraternal twin birth in the mother's womb.

When twins are born from multiple eggs together, they are called dizygotic twins, meaning that even if they are born together, they come from different zygotes or different embryos. But when an embryo splits into twins, it is called monozygotic twins. Their genetic makeup is identical because they are born as an embryo, so everything from appearance to character is the same.

Multiple child pregnancies can lead to a variety of complications for both the mother and the unborn child. It is therefore considered a high-risk pregnancy.

Risk of a pregnant mother

Excessive vomiting of the pregnant mother may occur. Iron deficiency can occur in the blood. Complications are also created due to the high blood pressure of the pregnant mother. Again, excess water accumulates in the fetal sac, called polyhydramnios. As a result and having more than one child, the abdomen becomes much larger. The mother has difficulty in moving and sleeping. Applying pressure upwards also causes shortness of breath. An abnormal position of the baby inside the uterus, meaning that the head may not be normally downwards but maybe in the back or horizontally. Increases the risk of bleeding during pregnancy. In multiple babies, the uterus overflows its capacity for excess water, causing the water sac to rupture prematurely or water breaking and even give birth.

During and after delivery

Earlier of water breaking and the umbilical cord came out. There is a risk of the pulse coming out, especially if the baby is horizontal and the water sac bursts. In this condition, the mother has to be transferred to the hospital immediately. Delivery time may be delayed. The risk of not being able to have a normal delivery is high. The risk of haemorrhage during childbirth and the postpartum  increases.

As the uterus becomes much larger after delivery, it is too late to return to normal. The risk of inflammation increases. Different complications lead to insufficient breastfeeding for multiple babies.

Neonatal complications

Abortion can happen. Premature births result in low birth weight babies. There may be birth defects. There is a risk of death inside the uterus. Pre-eclampsia or bleeding can cause shortness of breath after birth. There are also cases where the blood of one child passes into the body of another child. As a result, both children suffer from various complications. In this case, the high neonatal mortality rate can be noticed. Because of the large number of twins, the embryos are not able to divide completely because they are late. So the next time is to separate through a complex surgery.

What to do during this type of pregnancy?

The location of multiple babies can now be identified early in pregnancy through ultrasonogram. If you can find out about multiple children, the mother must stay in the care during pregnancy without panic.

Nutrition: For a baby to grow properly, every mother needs at least 300 more calories than before. Then the twins need to eat an extra 300 calories. If necessary, take the advice of a nutritionist.

Rest: The mother should take more rest than the rest for a child. You should rest completely after 24 weeks to prevent premature birth.

Supplements: Iron, vitamins, calcium, folic acid — everything should be increased. You have to take the advice of a doctor in this regard.

Going to the clinic: Every prenatal or antenatal visit should be done regularly. Pregnant mothers may have to go to more than one child to diagnose and resolve complications promptly. Ultrasonogram should be done more than once in a while to diagnose birth defects and other complications of the baby.

You have to go to the hospital where there are arrangements for the treatment and care of mother and child.

Avoid having multiple children

If multiple pregnancies occur naturally, there is no chance of avoiding it or there is no prevention. However, if a child is conceived due to infertility treatment, it can be prevented. In that case, if more eggs are formed, abstain from conception in that month. In the case of a test tube, one embryo can be replaced instead of many.

However, if it is more than two, whether it is natural or as a result of treatment, it has a treatment. That is if there are three or four, one or two of them are destroyed inside the uterus in the early stages of pregnancy. For the welfare of mother and child, it is considered as an acceptable treatment not only from the place of morality but also in medicine.
